Assam: Bura Chapori Wildlife Sanctuary
has achieved a major milestone in its conservation efforts. On Sunday, Chief
Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the success of an anti-encroachment
drive that took place earlier this year in February. Almost 1,892 hectares of
illegally occupied government land were freed from encroachers after prior
notices were issued by the district administration of Sonitpur and Nagaon.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shared
before-and-after photos of the sanctuary on Twitter, captioning the post with
the statement, "Life has found a way to flourish after the eviction drive
at Burachapori Wildlife Sanctuary undertaken by the Government of Assam."
In March, he also shared pictures of two tigers roaming the sanctuary after th
e
successful eviction.

The Bura Chapori
Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, including
tigers, elephants, and various bird and reptile species. The anti-encroachment
drive is a significant step towards preserving Assam's natural heritage and
safeguarding the region's biodiversity. By protecting the sanctuary, the
government is ensuring that it will continue to thrive and serve as a vital
ecosystem for future generations.
