Assam Cabinet Recognizes Santali Language, Allocates Funds for Infrastructure Development: Latest Updates
Assam Cabinet Approves Recognition of OL CIKI Script for Santali Language, Allocates Funds for Infrastructure Development

The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced the recognition of the OL CIKI script for the Santali language in Assam. This decision aims to facilitate pre-primary and primary education for the Santali community, considering that Santali is listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution and spoken in multiple states.
The All Santal Students' Union expressed their appreciation for the cabinet's decision, highlighting that the inclusion of the Santali language in primary schools has been a long-standing demand. Mintu Hembram, the president of the union, expressed hope that the Assam government would actively support and promote the Santali language, similar to the Assamese language.

In addition to this language recognition, the cabinet has approved the rollout of Category-III of the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme (AMFIRS), 2021

The cabinet has approved an allocation of Rs 852.68 crore for the construction of a 4-lane Elevated Corridor on GNB Road. This project aims to expedite connectivity from Dighalipukhuri to Noonmati near FCI Godown, with an extended arm towards Rajgarh Road. The funding falls under the State Owned Priority Development (SOPD) for 2023-24.

Furthermore, the cabinet has decided to abolish the office of the Divisional Commissioner, transferring its statutory powers to the Principal Secretary, GAD. As a result, employees and assets of the Divisional Commissioner's office will be transferred to respective District Commissioners (DCs). Going forward, DCs will be known as District Commissioners and will have the authority to transfer Gazetted, Non-Gazetted, third, and fourth-grade employees within their districts. However, the transfer of Gazetted employees will require prior approval from the Guardian Minister.

These decisions by the Assam Cabinet signify important developments in language recognition, infrastructure development, and administrative reforms in the state.
